Sending and Receiving Mail Using SSL with Eudora for Windows


Eudora v5.2 and higher

SSL causes your passwords and the contents of your messages to be transmitted between your computer and the mail server over an encrypted connection.

1. While in Eudora, under the Tools menu select Options..

2. Whether you are using imap-server.its.caltech.edu or pop-server.its.caltech.edu as your incoming email server, smtp-server.its.caltech.edu should be your outgoing email server.

3. Select Getting Started under the category list on the left side. Within the SMTP Server (Outgoing): section, verify that the Allow authentication box is checked.

4. Select Checking Mail under the category list.

Note: For security purposes, IMSS does not recommend saving usernames and password information but if you would like to do so, check the Save password box.

5. Enter 15 in the Check for mail every ___ minute(s) field.

6. Select Required, Alternate Port under Secure Sockets when Receiving.

7. Select Sending Mail under the category list.

8. Select Required, Alternate Port under Secure Sockets when Sending.

9. Click the OK button.

You can test whether the authentication worked properly by sending an email to yourself, opening the Options window again, clicking the Sending Mail icon, and clicking the Last SSL Info button. If the Eudora SSL Connection Information Manager window pops up, then the SSL configuration was successful.
