Sending and Receiving Mail Using SSL with Netscape Mail

SSL causes your passwords and the contents of your messages to be transmitted between your computer and the mail server over an encrypted connection.

Netscape 7.2 (or higher) is the preferred browser. In order to utilize SSL in the lower versions, you must make modifications to your Anti-virus software (specifically Symantic and Norton). 1. Open Netscape Mail and click Edit/Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings… from the menu bar. In the account list on the left of the window, click the entry for Server Settings. 2. The right side of the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window will display the Server Settings.   If you are using IMAP, the Port: should be set to 993.  If you are using POP, the Port: should be set to 995.  Check the box to Use secure connection (SSL).

3. Enter 15 in the Check for messages every ___ minutes field.

4. In the account list on the left of the window, click the entry for Outgoing Server (SMTP).

5. Click the radio button, underneath Use secure connection: labeled SSL.

6. If your Internet Service Provider blocks port 465 use port 25.

7. Click the OK button.
