Sending and Receiving Mail Using SSL With Entourage


SSL causes your passwords and the contents of your messages to be transmitted between your computer and the mail server over an encrypted connection.

1.  While in Entourage, under the Tools menu select Accounts.

 

Note:  For security purposes, IMSS does not recommend saving usernames and password information but if you would like to do so, enter your password in the Password field within the Receiving mail section and check the Save password in my Mac OS keychain box.

2.  Whether you are using imap-server.its.caltech.edu or pop-server.its.caltech.edu as your incoming email server, smtp-server.its.caltech.edu should be your outgoing email server.

3.  Within the Receiving mail section of the Accounts Settings tab, click on the Click here for advanced receiving options.

   

4.  Check the box labeled This IMAP/POP service requires a secure connections (SSL) If you are using IMAP, the Override default port should be set to 993.  If you are  using POP, the Override default port should be set to 995.  Verify settings and close the window.

5.  Within the Sending mail section of the Accounts Settings tab, click on the Click here for advanced sending options.

 

6.  Make sure the box labeled SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL) and the box labeled Override default SMTP port: is checked.  In the port: field enter 465.  If  your Internet Service Provider blocks port 465, use port 25.

7.  Close the window.

8.  Click on the OK button
