Sending and Receiving Mail Using SSL with Eudora for MAC


SSL causes your passwords and the contents of your messages to be transmitted between your computer and the mail server over an encrypted connection.

1.  While in Eudora, under the Eudora menu select Preferences.

Note: Whether you are using imap-server.its.caltech.edu or pop-server.its.caltech.edu as your incoming email server, smtp-server.its.caltech.edu should be your outgoing email server.

2.  Select Checking Mail from the list in the left hand side of the window.
 


3.  Within the Account/Server Information area enter Mail. in the Location prefix: field.  This step does not apply when using POP.

4.  Enter 15 in the Check for mail every ___ minute(s) field.

5.  Select Sending Mail from the list in the left hand side of the window.

6.  Within the SMTP Server (Outgoing): section, verify that the Allow authorization box is checked.

7.  Select SSL from the list in the left hand side of the window.

8.  Within the Secure Socket Layer section make sure that both the SSL for SMTP: and SSL for IMAP: fields are set to Required (Alternate Port).  If using POP, set the SSL for POP: field to Required (Alternate Port).

9.  Within the Standard Port SSL Negotiation area, check the radio button labeled Maximum Compatibility.

10.  Within the Alternate Port SSL Negotiation area, check the radio button labeled Maximum Compatibility.

11.  Click the OK button.
