IMSS iPhone 2.0 Configuration Guide - Accessing Unix Email
Accessing Unix email with the iPhone
The iPhone currently supports IMAP and POP based connections to Unix email. Access to IMSS email accounts now require SSL for all email access. The iPhone will automatically detect these settings. If you experience issues with email, contact the IMSS Help Desk at x3500. To create a Mail account
- On the iPhone, select Settings.
- Select Mail.
- Select Add Account.
- Select Other.
- If your account is on the Caltech Exchange Server or the Business and Finance Exchange Server, select Exchange. Otherwise, select IMAP or POP depending on which protocol you prefer to use.

- Push is on by Default. This will push new email account data to your iPhone when it comes in to your account(s) but will drain the battery somewhat more quickly than Fetch. Fetch will download data to your iPhone at an interval you set: 15, 30, 1hr increments, or manual.
- Click the Advanced button if you have multiple accounts and wish to have email download differently with each account. The choices are Push, Fetch (using your prefs above) and manual.
