  5. Do I need training before I can use the Data Warehouse?

  6. How often is the Data Warehouse updated?
Each datamart is updated on a nightly basis.

  7. What kind of performance should I expect?
Simple queries should take no more than a few seconds. Complex queries may take a few minutes. If a query takes longer than three minutes, please notify IMSS Help Desk at x3500.

  8. Where can I find the latest information about the Caltech Data Warehouse?
Go to Caltech Data Warehouse website.

  9. What is the difference between the Caltech Data Warehouse and a datamart?
The Caltech Data Warehouse is a set of datamarts. They have certain features in common (reporting tools, logon procedures, security rules, menus, and toolbars for instance), but each datamart reports on a different business area (General Ledger, Grants Accounting, Facilities Information, Labor Distribution).

  10. Is it possible to break the Caltech Data Warehouse by using it incorrectly?
It is not possible to break it, but long-running report requests can negatively affect performance. Choosing very specific parameters will minimize long running jobs.

  11. Can I start using the new Caltech Data Warehouse right away, or do I need to get training first?
Everyone needs to be trained before they are given access to the new data warehouse. Please click here to sign up for training.
