Known Issues

  • Problems exporting to Excel or Problems opening cubes - This problem arises when your system has been upgraded to IE8.  
    • If your computer is managed by IMSS managed computing, there are no changes that you will need to make.  The upgrades will automatically be pushed out to you.  
    • If your computer is NOT managed by IMSS managed computing, you will need to update your local intranet settings.  See instructions below:
      1. Go to Internet Explorer and Click on Tools
      2. Choose Internet Options
      3. Click the Security tab
      4. Click the Local intranet icon
      5. Click the Sites button
      6. Click the Advanced button
      7. Make sure the following URLs are listed under the Websites.  Add them to the list if they are not there:
        • foreman1.caltech.edu
        • techne1.caltech.edu 
      8. Click the Close button
      9. Click OK then OK again.
      10. Exit all IE instances
      11. Restart IE and try again.
  • Problems with reports printing on multiple pages (that previously printed on one page) - this problem arises when your system has been upgraded to Adobe Acrobat version 8.4 – 9.x.  Cognos is not certified to work with those versions of Adobe Acrobat.
    • If your computer is managed by IMSS managed computing, there are no changes that you will need to make.  The upgrades will automatically be pushed out to you.  
    • If your computer is NOT managed by IMSS managed computing, you will need to upgrade to Adobe Acrobat 10.   
    • Download Adobe Acrobat 10 from the Caltech software website (software.caltech.edu).
 
  • At this time, the Firefox browser does not work with Cognos Analysis Studio cubes on Mac.
  • (Cognos is working with the Data Warehouse team to resolve this issue.)
  • The Mac Safari browser is NOT supported.
  • There is slowness when exporting large volumns of data to Excel from Query Studio or Report Studio.   To get around this issue, try exporting using .csv format.
  • There are reports of Caltech Data Warehouse login slowness.  Any login that takes more than 10 seconds should be cancelled and retried.
