MFA Second-factor Options
This page covers the options available for multi-factor authentication. Return to the Multi-factor Authentication page for general information and instructions for getting set up.
Smartphone app or hardware token
Users have the option of using the free Duo Mobile smartphone app or purchasing a hardware token. If a service necessary to perform your job requires multi-factor authentication, it may be a good idea to set up both options (for example, have a hardware token as a backup in case your phone battery dies). Hardware tokens can be purchased from the Caltech Store (see below). If you want to use a hardware token purchased separately, it must be a supported model, and you will need to bring it in to the Help Desk for initial setup.
The Duo Mobile smartphone app is available for iOS and Android.
IMSS supports the following Yubikey hardware token devices available at Amazon:
NOTE: After the device is purchased, the Yubikey has to be programmed by the IMSS Help Desk before it will work on your account. Please bring it to the Help Desk at CES (Building 85 on the Caltech Map) second floor, room 204.
