MFA Self Enrollment
MFA is already enforced for Office 365 for multiple groups on campus as well as new users. If you are not yet enrolled in MFA and would like to self-enroll please review the information below.

*Use of the Duo service is free for students, faculty, and staff when using the Duo Mobile app on a mobile device. A hardware token (YubiKey) may optionally be purchased for ~$45 (standard USB type A) or ~$55 (USB type C).
Prerequisites
- Decide what you will use as a second-factor device. The Duo Mobile app is free and is the most popular choice. You can optionally purchase a hardware token
- Verify that your email client supports MFA.
- If you are using Outlook webmail or a recent version of the Outlook desktop application, MFA is supported.
- Older email clients that do not support modern authentication are not supported.
- Receiving Caltech email in Gmail is not supported. More information.

Sign-up for MFA with Duo
- Self register your mobile device for Duo
- Request MFA for Office 365 (Email, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, etc.) by sending an email to help@caltech.edu. Please note that some email clients may require you to reconfigure your account. Depending on your mailbox size, it may take some time for all your email to re-download.
Sign-up for MFA Using a Hardware Token
Submit a request via https://help.caltech.edu (request type: IMSS > Information Security > Duo Request). In this ticket also specify that you want to enroll in MFA for Office 365 (Email, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, etc.). Please note that some email clients may require you to reconfigure your account. Depending on your mailbox size, it may take some time for all your email to re-download.
Sign-up for MFA for Other Apps
If you are interested in using MFA for other applications, please send an email to help@caltech.edu to confirm eligibility. If the application supports MFA, the Help Desk will be able to guide you through the enrollment process.
