IMSS would like to notify you about an upcoming change to our network security configuration. Starting at 9 AM, June 26, 2024, Telnet access from incoming traffic will be blocked at the edge of our network. This decision has been made to enhance security and protect our systems from potential vulnerabilities associated with Telnet.
We are recommending you transition to Secure Shell (SSH) a more secure alternative. Read below for details.
What is Telnet? Telnet is protocol that allows remote access to devices over a network. While it has been widely used in the past, it is considered insecure due to its lack of encryption and authentication mechanisms. As a result, we are phasing out Telnet access to improve overall security.
Impact on Users:
- If you currently use telnet to connect to our systems, please transition to more secure alternatives such as SSH (Secure Shell). SSH provides encrypted communication and stronger authentication, making it a safer choice for remote access.
Action Required:
- Identify any systems or devices that rely on telnet access.
- Update your configurations to use SSH instead. Test the new SSH connections to ensure they work as expected.
- Test the new SSH connections to ensure they work as expected.
