As of January 1, 2026, Google is enforcing strict storage limits across the Google Workspace platform. Consequently, IMSS must now implement the previously established storage allocation policy to ensure sustainable and equitable access to resources for all Caltech users.
What should I do if I'm using more than 50GB?
If your current usage is above the 50GB limit, you need to reduce to this amount by January 30, 2026, by doing the following:
- Delete files
- Purchase more storage on Google in increments of 1TB for $150 per year.
Email [email protected] with a PTA and your storage request in 1TB increments. - Move files to a different Caltech platform. Review options for Caltech storage.
What is the impact if I don't change my usage?
- Your account will switch to read-only status effective February 1, 2026. You will still be able to move and delete files until your storage usage is reduced to the 50GB limit.
IMSS is also evaluating lower-cost options within the Google platform and will provide more information as these alternatives become available.
