To improve security and protect your computer and work, Caltech is expanding the use of Duo Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) to access.caltech. Starting August 11th, Duo will be required for faculty, postdocs, students and most staff.
In addition, we are enabling a web application firewall as another layer of protection on August 9th. This helps defend against automated threats and ensures the continued security of our systems.
As a result of this change, you may encounter a "Verify you are human" check when accessing the applications hosted in access.caltech.

Be Prepared for Duo MFA:
Setup is quick, simple, and free with the Duo Mobile app.
- IMSS recommends you register at least two authentication methods to ensure access if one becomes unavailable. Otherwise, identity verification may be required via the Help Desk (in person or via video chat). To add a new device yourself, log into the Caltech Duo Device Management Portal
- If you are new to Duo MFA, register your devices by following these instructions.
- If you do not have a smart phone to download the application, contact your supervisor.
- For users that do not have or prefer not to use their device with Duo, a YubiKey may be purchased as an alternative.
