To improve security and protect your computer and work, Caltech is expanding the use of Duo Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) to more applications. Starting Wednesday, June 18th Duo will be required for Box. You will notice improvements to the Cisco VPN login process as well. The VPN login will use your system browser to prompt you to enter your [email protected] and password.
Additionally, access.caltech will require Duo MFA starting in mid-August. Look for reminders in Ion and IMSS News in late July.
Duo MFA is one of the easiest and most effective ways to keep your account secure. Even if a password is compromised, your account remains protected. Setup is quick, simple, and free with the Duo Mobile app.
Be Prepared:
- IMSS recommends you register at least two authentication methods to ensure access if one becomes unavailable. Otherwise, identity verification may be required via the Help Desk (in person or via video chat). To add a new device yourself, log into the Caltech Duo Device Management Portal
- If you are new to Duo MFA, register your devices by following these instructions.
- If you do not have a smart phone to download the application, contact your supervisor.
- For users that do not have or prefer not to use their device with Duo, a YubiKey may be purchased as an alternative.
What's Changing with Duo:
- When you log in into Box, you will be promoted to enter your MFA via Duo.
- If you use the same browser, you will not be prompted for Duo for 24 hours. This applies to other applications if you are using the same browser.
- If you don't have a smartphone to download the Duo app, contact your supervisor. A YubiKey can be used as an alternative. Click here for additional details about the YubiKey.
