Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,
As part of our ongoing commitment to protecting university data and strengthening our cybersecurity posture, IMSS Information Security will implement new security controls within our Google Workspace environment.
Beginning Monday, July 20, we will restrict access to more than 1,300 third-party Google applications that have not been approved for use with Caltech accounts. These applications have been identified as posing potential security, privacy, or data protection risks and will be added to our Google Workspace restricted application list.
What this means for you:
- If your application is on the list of approved university-supported applications, the core Google Workspace services will not be affected.
- Some third-party applications that use "Sign in with Google" or request access to your Caltech Google Workspace account may no longer function.
- If you attempt to authorize a restricted application, access will be denied.
If you rely on a third-party application for academic, research, or business purposes and believe it should be reviewed for approval, please submit a request through the ServiceNow Portal.
Requests will be evaluated based on security, privacy, and business requirements.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue to enhance the security of our institute systems and protect our community's data.
Thank you,
Ash Hadi
