Caltech has significantly enhanced its research and campus networking capabilities with the deployment of a new 800 Gigabit per second (800G) connection to CENIC, California's high-performance research and education network provider.
Led by Information Management Systems and Services (IMSS) Network Support and Services in collaboration with Arista Networks, the project doubles Caltech's external network capacity beyond its existing 400G connection and introduces a geographically diverse fiber path that strengthens network resiliency.
The new infrastructure supports both Caltech's High-Performance Research (HPR/CalREN) network and campus internet services, providing faster, more reliable connectivity for researchers, faculty, staff, and students. Built on Arista's 800G routing platform and their advanced optical technologies, the deployment creates a scalable foundation to support the Institute's growing data-intensive research and global collaborations.
