Enable Software Firewall

Enable software firewall

Use the steps below to enable your computer's software firewall (or to confirm that it is enabled). Note that if you are using an antivirus product, that may also include a software firewall feature. You should use either the software firewall including with your operating system or one included with your antivirus product, but not both.

Windows 10

  • Click on the Start Menu and select or search for Control Panel
  • In the Control Panel select System and Security then Windows Defender Firewall
  • On the left menu click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off
  • Confirm that the firewall is on for both public and private networks, or select Turn on Windows Defender firewall for each one

Mac OS

  • Click on the Apple icon on the top menu and select System Preferences
  • Select Security & Privacy then click on the Firewall tab
  • Confirm that the firewall is on, or click Turn On Firewall
