Wireless Addresses for Server Administrators
Traffic from Caltech's wireless networks reaches other systems through network address translation (NAT). Each network uses its own set of public IPv4 addresses. Use this page to configure firewalls and access lists for systems you manage.
| Network | Public IPv4 addresses | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Caltech Secure | 131.215.220.161 to 131.215.220.165 | People signed in with access.caltech credentials, including Caltech users connected through eduroam |
| eduroam | 131.215.220.51 to 131.215.220.55 | Visitors from other institutions. Caltech users on eduroam use the Caltech Secure addresses |
| Caltech Visitor and CaltechAirpass | 131.215.220.30 to 131.215.220.34 | Open to guests, including anyone who creates a guest account or connects with a supported phone SIM |
| Caltech-IoT and previously registered devices | 131.215.220.181 to 131.215.220.185 | Devices that use a network password issued to a person or group |
Each range is five consecutive addresses.
Using these addresses safely: A source address does not identify a person. Use these addresses together with authentication, and do not rely on them alone to protect sensitive systems. The Caltech Visitor addresses are open to guests, and Caltech-IoT passwords are issued per person or group, so neither is a good basis for allowing access.
Changes: We may change these addresses. We announce any changes to these addresses on the IMSS website
