Wireless Upgrade Project

Caltech is in the process of a complete campus-wide wireless network refresh. Our installation plan and selected buildings will be identified at the beginning of each fiscal year. As of February 2022, we have upgraded 106 campus buildings or 78% of the structures on campus (academic buildings, student housing, admin buildings, and houses on Hill and Wilson.) and installed outdoor access points at ten targeted locations on campus to support faculty, students and staff in teaching, learning and collaboration. The remaining 32 buildings include 10 academic buildings, houses on Hill and Wilson streets, and administrative buildings.

Project Scope
Caltech is partnering with Aruba and VectorUSA to design and implement an 802.11ac wireless network. This will be a multi-year effort, encompassing new controllers, more than 2,500 additional access points, authenticated guest access, and support for Internet of Things (IoT) devices where possible.
Transition Details
There will be an extended period of time where both the current and the new wireless networks will be deployed on parts of campus. When you find that you are not connected to wireless, go to WiFi settings on your device.
Check the map below for a list of completed buildings where you can use Caltech Secure and Caltech Visitor as well as the next scheduled buildings.
