Digital Telephone Features
Automatic Call Back
When a campus extension is busy, this feature will alert you when the extension is free and will automatically reconnect you to that extension.
If you are calling a campus extension and the line is busy,
- Do not hang up.
- Depress the switch hook (hang-up button) once
- Dial *51
- Listen for the confirmation tone.
- Hang up.
- When the extension becomes available, your phone will ring.
- Lift your handset, and the call will be placed automatically.
To cancel this feature, dial #51.
Call Forwarding
This feature allows you to temporarily send your incoming calls to another location.
To activate this feature
- Lift your handset.
- Dial *72.
- Listen for the dial tone.
- Dial the extension number of the other location.
- When you hear the confirmation tone, hang up.
To cancel this feature, dial #72.
Call Hold
This allows you to place a call on hold from a single-line phone that does not have a hold button.
To activate this feature,
- Depress the switch hook once.
- Listen for the confirmation tone.
- Dial *61.
- Do not hang up.
To return to the call on hold, depress and release the switch hook again.
Call Park
This feature allows you to place a call on hold from your phone and then retrieve the call on a different phone.
To activate this feature,
- Depress the switch hook.
- Dial *88.
- Hang up.
To retrieve your call at the other phone,
- Lift the handset,.
- Dial #88.
- Dial the extension of the phone where the call was "parked."
- The parked call should now be connected.
Call Pickup
The Office of Telecommunications must create call pickup groups.Once a group has been created, any member of a call-pickup group can answer any call that is ringing on the extension of anyone else within the same call-pickup group.
To activate this feature:
- When you hear another extension ring, dial *62.
- You will hear theother extension ring.
- You will thenbe connected to that call.

Call Transfer
Call transfer allows you to transfer a call from one phone to another.
To activate this feature:
- Depress the switch hook once.
- Wait for the dial tone (about a 10-second delay).
- Dial the extension where you want the call to be transferred.
- If there is no answer, refer to the instructions in the note at the bottom of this page.
- As a courtesy, announce the call to the receiving party. Otherwise, go to step 6.
- Hang up.
Three-Way Conferencing
Three-way conference calling allows a user to add a third party to an ongoing conversation. The other parties may be on or off campus.
To establish a three-way conference, the controlling station activates this feature:
- Depress the switch hook once.
- Wait for the dial tone (about a 10-second delay).
- Dial the third party‘s number.
- If there is no answer, refer to the instructions in the note at the bottom of this page.
- When the third party answers, depress and release the switch hook to establish the three-way conversation.
- The controlling station can drop the third party from the conference at any time by depressing and releasing the switch hook, again. This leaves the original two parties connected.
- When two outside calls are involved, all parties will be released when the controlling station hangs up.
Conference Calls of Four to Six People
Conference calls involving four to six people require operator assistance:
- Dial 0 for the campus operator to make arrangements.
- To add only one more party, for a total of three, see above.
During a two-way conversation, expand it to a four-, five-, or six-party conference call:
- Depress the switch hook.
- Dial 0 for the campus operator.
Last Number Dialed
This feature automatically redials the last number you dialed. This can be an extension or an outside number.
To activate:
- Dial *99.
- If it is a long-distance call, re-enter the access code.
Description of Distinctive Rings and Tones
Single ring Call originating on campus Continuous steady tone Dial tone; dial number to place call Three short tones Confirmation tone Three short tones followed by the dial tone Recall dial tone Alternating high/low ("siren" ) tone Intercept (siren) tone, indicating either a dialing error or a feature that is unavailable Fast-busy tone Reorder tone (call is temporarily blocked — try again later)
Note
When you have a party on hold, you may encounter a "busy," "intercept," "reorder tone," or no answer after you dial the next extension.
To return to your call on hold,
- Depress the switch hook
- Wait a few seconds
- Press the switch hook again.
