Screen Sharing by Participants
Zoom Screen Sharing Recommendations
By default Zoom enables all meeting participants to share their screens. This may be useful for small group meetings, but may be problematic for larger groups or sessions where only the host should be sharing his or her screen.
In addition, to make sure that only the intended audience has access to your meeting, IMSS recommends posting your meeting's URL in a secure location, such as your Canvas course site.
Security Host Control
Zoom recently added a Security host control. To prevent participants from sharing their screen, click on Security > uncheck Share Screen. Advanced screen sharing instructions are provided below.
Mac Instructions
Disabling screen sharing for all participants can only be done once the meeting is started. However, during the meeting you may toggle between enabling and disabling All Participants from sharing their screen. Doing this will not cause any meeting interruptions.
- Start your meeting 5 minutes ahead of time
- In the Zoom control panel, select Screen Share > Advanced Sharing Options
- Change the Who can share? option to
- To enable participants to share their screen, follow the same steps and change Who can share? to All Participants
Windows Instructions

- In the Who can share? section, select Only Host
- To enable participants to share their screen, follow the same steps and change Who can share? to All Participants
