Zoom Meeting Visual Refresh Update

Beginning April 14, 2024, Zoom will be updating the visual and functional user experience in the new version, 6.0. You will need to update the application by clicking the profile picture or your initials and then scroll down to Check for Updates. Proceed with the instructions provided by Zoom.

Caltech Backgrounds

Official Caltech backgrounds can be found and used as your virtual background while on Zoom. To change your background, open Zoom and go to the top-right corner where you will see a box with either your initials or your profile picture. Go to your Settings > Backgrounds and Effects, and you will see several options to select from. You can also select your background during a meeting by clicking the arrow button next to the video icon, and select Change Virtual Background.

Visual Refresh

The Zoom desktop app has been overhauled with new icons and new color schemes. You can select color schemes by going into your Settings. These will be available when your Zoom app is set to Light Mode.

In-Meeting Toolbar

A toolbar, available during meetings, can be customized by dragging and dropping icons to adjust meeting features specific to your needs. The in-meeting security tab is now located under the "Host Tools" icon.

Multi-speaker View

The multi-speaker view will dynamically adapt the video layout by displaying enlarged views of current and recent speakers' videos, while showing other participants' views in a smaller gallery.

Now, participants can share content simultaneously, and participants can see each other's shared content as individual tabs in the meeting window.

Meeting Wallpapers

Meeting Wallpapers allow meeting hosts and co-hosts to customize their meeting view with more color and customization options. A wallpaper background provided by the admins, or a preset from Zoom, can be selected and the visuals can be adjusted to blend between participant videos and the wallpaper.

The Meetings Tab

With the 6.0 update, the Meetings and Calendar tab will be combined into one tab, the Meetings tab, to provide more details of the calendar and daily tasks. With this, you will be able to view multiple things in one place: view upcoming meetings, view RSVP responses, and any shared materials ahead of the session. You can also check previous meetings' recordings, chats, and whiteboards here.
