Zoom Rooms
What is Zoom Room?
A Zoom Room can be used as a dedicated hybrid remote and physical space to collaborate. By booking the room using its calendar, the Zoom Room can be used like a conference room and be set up within a physical room.
By integrating video and audio equipment like displays, audio, cameras, and touch controllers (such as an iPad), you can facilitate a physical space for meetings in-person and have others join in remotely. You can also call others through the Zoom Room, or have them call in to participate.
You can request a Zoom Room license from IMSS.
What is the difference between a Zoom Meeting and a Zoom Room?
A Zoom Meeting is what people typically use for regular meetings. It is meant to be more like an individual's meeting room - in a sense, someone's office.
A Zoom Room is more akin to a dedicated meeting room, such as a conference room, where several people can use this same room to meet with others. Groups of people can schedule and join a meeting in this virtual conference room.
How Do I Purchase a Zoom Room License?
The cost of a Zoom Room is $435 yearly and will be prorated based on when you purchase it.
To purchase a Zoom Room license, please submit a ticket request to help@caltech.edu.
What do I need to get set up with a Zoom Room?
Zoom Rooms, at a minimum, require these items:
- Zoom Room license
- Zoom Room Controller (such as an iPad)
- A computer with Zoom installed (such as a Mac Mini)
- Optional: Displays, speakers, cameras, microphones
The Zoom Room Controller and computer are used together to schedule and start the meeting using both devices.
After scheduling a meeting using the Zoom Room's calendar, simply tap "Join" on your Zoom Room Controller when it's time to get started. Using microphones and cameras, in-person attendees can collaborate with others who join in virtually if they're working remotely.
