Shibboleth Stale Request Login Error
What does the "Stale Request" or "Stale Login" error mean?
This error occurs when the login session has expired or become invalid. Common causes include:
- Using the Back button after login.
- Bookmarking the login page instead of the resource.
- Session timeout or cached credentials
Why does this happen more often on iOS/macOS?
Apple devices sometimes block cookies or retain stale session data in Safari or in-app browsers. Additionally:
- Safari's privacy settings may prevent cookies.
- Multiple tabs or saved credentials can interfere with logins.
- Network changes (e.g., switching from Wi-Fi to cellular) can affect login sessions.
How do I fix it?
- It may take several tries to successfully login. Close the stale request error window and try logging in again.
- When using iOS, choose the option to use FaceID, or TouchID on MacOS after you successfully login the first time.
If using MacOS, try the following:
- Switch to Chrome or Firefox browsers for Timekeeping UKG.
- If using Safari, clear cache and cookies (Safari → Settings → Clear History and Website Data).
- Close all tabs and start a fresh browser session.
- Ensure cookies are allowed in Safari (Settings → Safari → Privacy & Security).
- Remove any saved Shibboleth URLs or credentials from browser/app settings.
- Avoid using the Back button or old bookmarks—navigate directly to the resource.
- If on Wi-Fi, try switching to cellular data or using a VPN if network issues persist.
- Restart your device.
